Delicious deer meat for the freezer

I got late on my lease this year and wasn’t able to get a good setup going for bow season so I’ve decided to get a doe with my 300 AAC Blackout AR15. This is the first time I’m hunting for deer with a rifle. All the deer I’ve harvested before were taken with bow and arrow.

I’ve seen this doe on game camera pictures before. She has a yearling with her, and usually waited until the young was already all over the corn on the ground before even moving in. She’s very careful and I almost missed my chance.

I took the shot in what was probably the last second I had available. She dropped right away. She was at about 75 yards and I sighted in at 50 yards. At 75 yards, the 110 grain Barnes VOR-TX round is about an inch high, and at 100 yards it’s back to zero. You can see in the video that I was aiming low. Let’s be honest, this might have been a lucky shot but I was able to do all the right things at the right time.

This was also the first opportunity to put my Polaris Sportsman 570 EFI ESP (in Polaris Pursuit Camo) to work, which worked out great!
